Painted Skirt

I went to a lecture about fabric painting at QuiltCon and it inspired me to experiment with procion dyes. I took a piece of linen and experimented with different strokes, mixing colors, and adding different amounts of water and thickening agent. The final piece was a skirt made from the painted fabric. My favorite part about this project was painting it in the studio, in the undergraduate SAIC painting class I took. The instructor, Judith Guichman—an amazing woman and talented painter—saw my fabric and said, “Well, they are gonna see you coming.” THEY SURE WILL, JUDITH.
