I am a rockhound, which means I go out to wild and wide-open spaces and dig for rocks. For a couple of years, this is where this activity stopped for me: a bucket of rocks that I only showed off to friends when they came over. Then, I moved to Chicago for seven months, where my first order of business was stumbling upon the lapidary studio at the Lincoln Park Cultural Center. It was there that I learned how to saw, grind, polish, engrave, and drill into my rock collection.
